Mountain biking

As I approach middle-age, something about spending hours on my butt making a chain go around and around gets more and more appealing...

February was a blur

Alright, things are busy and I haven't been able to keep up with this journal. Long story short - I've been going to lots of spin class. Monday, Wednesday and Friday mostly. I also had a chance to go to Joe's on a Saturday morning and spin with him. It was cool, but the trainer wasn't adjustable so the resistance was higher than what I'm used to. It is very cool hanging out with Joe, though. Poor Heather got a DNF at a 24 hour race in Arizona. She banged up her foot pretty good, but she's healed.

Birthday ride

The day after my birthday and the sun is OUT. It's unseasonably warm and I am psyched to be out on my road bike. I'm extending my "normal" 20 mile loop up to Thatcher park by going out through Knox and back on Helderberg Trail road. Bit of a mistake. The road is a 55 MPH highway. Plenty of shoulder, but a little too much fast moving traffic for my taste. I did enjoy "Street Road' which is a dirt road up at the top half. Yum. I got chased by a dog on the lower half. Scared the crap out of me. He was sleeping in the bushes by the side of the road and heard me go by and gave chase. I squirted my water bottle into his face and that slowed him down enough for me to move on. I felt kind of bad because I could see a little girl looking out the window while I did it. I imagine she was kind of upset that some mean man squirted her sweet pooch, but he was looking like fangs and snarl from where I sat. I was pretty proud of this ride. Lots and lots of hills. Usually the 20 mile loop I take takes me two hours and today I did 30 in two hours!
